What You Can Book for 2024

Dreaming about guest starring on Abbot Elementary? How about Percy Jackson on Disney+? Or even the Frasier reboot? Good news- you still can. They’ve all been officially renewed, along with dozens of other shows. Check out Deadline’s running list to help you know what jobs to be on the hunt for. (But let’s all agree to not get cast on MTV’s 9th season of Catfish, okay?)

SAGs on Saturday

The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will air Saturday night at 8 pm EST exclusively on Netflix. SAG awards are usually the best predictor for Oscar success as SAG voters also make up a large portion of the Academy. Barbie and Oppenheimer lead the pack with four nominations each.

State of the Union: Hollywood Edition

“You can still cut through the noise.” That’s how UTA agent Dan Erlij describes how he’s tackling the current industry challenges. Talking to the LA Times, Erlij and fellow agent Rich Klubeck had lots to say Hollywood’s state of affairs. Some key takeaways from their perspectives:

  • Buyers being less willing to take risks than pre-strike is a momentary issue. At some point, viewers will demand a larger range of content and the market will level out- both in tv and movies.

  • There is still very much a place for original voices, strong points of view, and unique targets.

  • The rubber band will snap back with new series and movies being ordered. Maybe as soon as this summer, maybe toward the end of the year. For now it’s all about navigating through this less busy period to make it to that moment.

Box Office Numbers

  1. Bob Marley: One Love - 28.7 mil

  2. Madame Web - 15.3 mil

  3. Argylle - 4.9 mil (36.6 gross)

  4. Migration - 3.8 mil (115 gross)

  5. The Chosen: S4, Eps 4-6 - 3.6 mil

Expert Insights

Killers of the Flower Moon stars Lily Gladstone & Jillian Dion joined a Backstage panel to talk about all they learned while filming the Oscar-nominated movie. Here are some of our favorite bits-

On Osage stereotypes viewers might have-
LG: It’s something that I like pushing against personally in my performances- but just this idea of people being real stoic and it’s like stoicism serves a real purpose and it depends on who the audience is but when you get us all together we just laugh…We had an opportunity to just be sisters.”

On portraying characters with serious illnesses-
JD: It’s just like there was something festering inside and it was slowly from the middle going outwards and that’s how I kind of felt it. And when I submerge myself in the character, I really lived in that. From the moment I put my wardrobe on til the moment I took if off- it just felt so real.

LG: The recognition of how much energy it takes to be sick- it’s a tremendous amount of energy to not feel well…I was actually taking impeccably good care of myself during that process because it was incredibly exhausting…If you have to play sick, try and be healthy. It’s going to cost way more energy than you think it will.

On the necessity of on-set levity:
JD: What we’re doing is very serious and the subject matter is important and it’s accurate and it’s truthful, but you can’t get lost in that whole thing- for your soul and for your spirit.
